Vault of Heaven is the multi-media project by artist and musician Lucy Valentine. Compositional pieces created to each accompanying collage, the work focuses on moving the once medieval idea of the representation of the celestial realm into the scientific and astrophysical.

The entirety of the music was composed using the ethereal nature of the mellotron adding its unearthly hum, hiss and soundscape to accompany the artwork. Utilising its slightly untameable sounds, nonlinear nature of the original cassette recordings and working with the idea of the unfamiliar to create celestially imagined soundscapes.

Vault of Heaven is the references and combinations of two worlds from the literal, to the mythological, the historic imaginings of moving what is considered to be, essentially, the Christian reference to angels and the afterlife into something which is now scientifically quantifiable and referential.

The work does not directly seek to positively or negatively use either vantage point to make a statement, other than the literal and contemplative nature of the three worlds (image, sound and film) through technology, melding the Renaissance ideation into what once could only be imagined.
